The Black Sheep of Bordeaux and the Rise of Cabernet Franc
Once considered only as a blending component of Merlot-based Bordeaux wines, Cabernet Franc has evolved as a distinct alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of red fruits (raspberries, strawberries, cherries) alongside herbaceous notes (bell pepper, sage, and sometimes floral hints like violet). Moderate tannins and brighter acidity make it approachable yet structured. The grape tends to reflect terroir, giving winemakers a canvas to showcase regional characteristics.
