Because Portugal’s wine culture developed in relative isolation, many grape varieties do not grow anywhere else in the world. If you don’t recognize the grape variety on a Portuguese wine label, it’s a good thing. There are over 250 indigenous varieties from which to choose. To many wine experts, Portugal is the last frontier of wine in Western Europe, because there is still so much to be tasted and explored. With all the excitement Portugal offers, we will taste wines from the major varietals and regions.
