Priorat
Join us as we journey through the Priorat region of Northeastern Spain. Farmed for centuries by Carthusian Monks, hence the Priorat moniker, this region lay dormant for years. We will explore the history of the region as it pertains to Wine and take a look at the two primary styles of wine produced there. Priorat is known for its distinct terroir, characterized by steep slopes, slate soils (licorella), and a dry climate. These conditions contribute to the production of powerful, concentrated wines, primarily made from Garnacha and Cariñena grapes. We will delve into the resurrection of fine winemaking in the region. In 2000, it achieved the prestigious DOQ (Denominació d'Origen Qualificada) status, highlighting its exceptional quality.
