With Germany’s cool continental climate, we generally associate Germany with white wines like Riesling; and so we should, over 64% of plantings in Germany are white varietals. The long, cool growing conditions promote mature ripeness while maintaining good acidity.
Germany’s entire wine classification is based on sugar levels in the finished wines. We will discuss this classification and taste wines from various regions including Riesling, Muller-Thurgau, Spatbugunder (Pinot Noir), Dornfleder, and a few others.
